Time: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Tuition: $899 (Save $200 by taking both the Master Portrait and the Master Figure Painting workshops for only $1,598)

This workshop will focus on a seven day long pose, working with a live model. The purpose of this workshop is to take students through all stages of a full color figure painting. The human figure is one of the most challenging subjects to tackle and in painting it all of the student should come away with a good understanding of the building blocks of good painting and how to coordinate them in a painting. The extended 7 day format affords time to develop a full color figure painting and supporting explorations of form, value and color as needed.

On the first day students will focus on the start of a painting from gesture to drawing and the block in of your painting. The instructor will demonstrate and discuss how to find the movement of the pose, see the basic proportions and main landmarks. Monday will be a continuation of the block in or grisaille stage and will move on to laying in a general color for the light area of the model. Wednesday the class will spend the day on simple color study exercises to better understand color relationships and the capabilities of a full color palette. Thursday through Saturday we will be working on the continuing stages of the painting including the finish stage. At this stage students will learn about modeling the form in color, basic anatomy, and managing color and flesh tones together, rendering edges, and finishing.

Students will have the opportunity to execute side studies as needed. The instructor will demo each morning from 9 – 11am going over the days focus in addition to spending time with individual students at their easels.

Additional workshop events include:

  • Select Incamminati faculty and fellows will demo a full color figure painting on Wednesday evening

Workshop artists also receive:

  • Free Studio Incamminati tote bag and baseball cap
