Reading the Body
Reading the Body
Instructor: Roberto Osti
Saturday - Sunday
January 18 — January 19, 2020
Time: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Tuition: $425

The emphasis of this workshop will be on the aesthetic and dynamic aspects of the human figure. Starting from the structural, layered method developed during the Renaissance and moving on to the expressive aspects of the human figure at rest and in movement, the students will learn to “read” and recognize the body’s structural and anatomical characteristics, allowing the artist to employ an “active” interpretation of the human figure rather than a mimetic or passive one. Each class will begin with a 1-hour lecture followed by a 5-hour figure drawing session with live models, alternating male and female models each day.

Roberto Osti holds a BA in Anatomical and Surgical Drawing from the University of Bologna (Italy) and an MFA from the New York Academy of Fine Arts. He studied anatomy for medical and artistic purposes and has taught Figure Anatomy and Figure Drawing for more than a decade in various schools including the New York Academy of Fine Arts, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the University of the Arts. He also has offered workshops in various ateliers and universities. His book "Basic Human Anatomy" was published in 2016 by The Monacelli Press and he has contributed articles to the relaunched "Artists Magazine."
