The class will begin each day with an instructor demo explaining the concepts to be studied, followed by class exercises and individual assistance. The first day students paint a monochromatic “grisaille” and develop it with simple flesh tones, studying the construction of the head, basic planes and values. The second day students paint a color study, learning to see color as relative and studying the quality of the warm light source and how to turn form with temperature. The last three days are focused on a long pose portrait. Students practice building a painting through logical progressive stages and learn to develop a portrait with an understanding of anatomy, structure, values, color and paint handling. In every stage students will be guided by instructor demos, clear concepts and principles of observation.
