This two-day drawing course will cover concepts needed to create powerful portraits in charcoal. These concepts, first mastered in drawing, can later be applied to painting.

Starting with shorter training exercises this course culminates in a long pose where artists have an opportunity to take their work into the final stages.

Topics covered include capturing a likeness, facial expression, structure, anatomy, gesture, and light on form. Short lectures will also explain facial features and handling of materials.

Also featured in this workshop is an evening portrait drawing demonstration by the instructor designed to further clarify the concepts, craftsmanship and process.
