Color Study and Still Life Painting
Color Study and Still Life Painting
Instructor: Barbara Zanelli
Location: Studio Incamminati
Wednesdays (no class Nov 25)
October 7 — December 16, 2020
Time: 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.
Tuition: $399

Students will paint from life and learn to see color in a new and fresh way. Based on Studio Incamminati’s approach to studying color developed by Co-founder Nelson Shanks who studied with Henry Henshe, students will learn the basic principles of color: value, hue, temperature, and intensity. Beginning with simple color blocks, students will learn to mix color directly on the canvas with a palette knife, allowing the focus to be on color rather than draftsmanship.

Students will also be guided on how to “paint what you see, not your preconceived notions of color relationships.” We will then progress to painting a still life arrangement of objects with simple shapes and surfaces, such as ceramic crockery, undecorated bowls, and fruit.

Classes will include demonstrations and critiques, and begin with 20 – 40 min studies, eventually progressing to a 5-week still life painting. Classes are appropriate for all skill levels. The instructor will respond to the needs of each student and address their level of development.
