Acclaimed artist/educator Patrick Connors
explores landscapes and sketches
The acclaimed Philadelphia artist and educator has taught at Studio Incamminati,
New York Academy of Art, Grand Central Academy of Art and the Pennsylvania
Academy of the Fine Arts.
The Hudson River
School of Painting
This “quintessential” American landscape school derived much of its
inspiration from classic European landscape painting. Like many landscape
painters the Hudson River School painters Thomas Cole, Asher Durand, Frederic Edwin Church, John Frederick Kensett and Sanford Robinson
Gifford tapped into an ancient impulse to make sense of the connection of
nature and humanity. A question-and-answer session follows the lecture.
The Oil Sketch
"Good sketches by great masters... are usually the start of an enthusiasm
for art and slowly lead the amateur to the threshold of the whole of its world,
from which, if he once looks onward, he will never turn back."
Göethe, Propyläen, II, ii, 1799.
Nearly all painters make oil sketches and many of these paintings may stand
on their on merits as complete works of art. The bozzetti, modelli, and ricordi are only several ways that the painter manifests thoughts into oil sketches.
A question-and-answer session follows the lecture.

Renowned artist/anatomist Eliot Goldfinger
to explore muscular basis of facial expressions
Most anyone can identify the six basic facial expressions—happiness, sadness, surprise, fear, anger and disgust.
However, artist/anatomist Eliot Goldfinger can guide you through the muscles, bones and flesh and demonstrate how their intricate mechanics create those expressions.
Goldfinger, author of "Human Anatomy for Artists: The Elements of Form" and "Animal Anatomy for Artists: The Elements of Form" (both Oxford University Press), presents "Anatomy of the Face and Facial Expression."
Goldfinger, who has taught anatomy for artists at the New York Academy of Art and the Art Student’s League in New York City, will describe the individual facial muscles, showing their origins and insertions and their effects on the face. He will then show how their contractions, alone or in combination with other facial muscles, create facial expressions.
