Portrait Painting

Portrait Painting
Monday - Friday
July 9 - 13
9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
$550
($350 rate for Art Educators)

This workshop begins with short studies analyzing the structure of the human head, providing the student with a foundation for portrait painting. Basic concepts and methods of figurative painting taught at Studio Incamminati are covered including the monochromatic “grisaille”, value thumbnails, “duo-tone” limited palette studies and color studies. Concepts covered include: understanding the structure of the head in simplified planes, anatomical landmarks, value relationships, color relationships, edges and paint handling. Students paint in a direct or “alla prima” method, utilizing both a limited and a full color palette, and complete one to two portrait studies each day, culminating in an all-day portrait the last day. The instructor demonstrates concepts daily. Artists and art educators of all levels are welcome to attend this
workshop. Experience in drawing is helpful but not required.

of American Teenagers," visit her blog at www.natalieitaliano.blogspot.com

Still Life

Still Life: Developing
a Color Study

Monday - Friday
August 6 - 10
9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
$550
($350 rate for Art Educators)

“Color Study” is an exhilarating method of learning to see color as the effect of light on form. Inspired by the work of the Impressionists and American artist Henry Hensche, students learn to see beyond an object’s local color and understand how the light source influences how we see color. Through a variety of exercises, students learn to see and understand color relationships and apply these skills to blocking-in and developing a still life painting from the beginning.
